It’s a wrap! As we kick-off the beginning of Fall, we welcome back our clients and friends to a successful school year in our back to school edition featuring Leonia High School.

Recently breaking ground, LAN has been working with Leonia school district to provide a $5.5 million addition for Leonia High School to accommodate the growing student population. With efforts focused on reinvigorating the culinary arts program, the addition features a 2,000 square foot state-of-the-art Culinary Arts Lab. The lab is equipped with new commercial equipment and includes six individual learning kitchens as well as a large instructional counter with demonstration TV’s above. The Culinary Arts Lab also includes a tower garden for year round fresh herbs and access to an outdoor courtyard for grilling.
“Our goal was to design a space that will be as creative as the dishes they prepare,” says Matt Fink, Design Architect of LAN Associates. “Utilizing the top commercial equipment combined with a modern design aesthetic, students are able to jump start their culinary careers in a space that reflects high-end restaurant kitchens”.
The addition to the school is needed as the high school enrollment grows. Since the 1970s, the Leonia school district has accepted students from the Edgewater school district, as the Edgewater school district only educates students through the 6th grade. About 40 percent of the high school’s 725 students are from Edgewater, a number that is expected to grow in coming years.
The addition also features seven new classrooms and a new outdoor terraced courtyard. The courtyard was incorporated for teachers to host outdoor classes and for students to have quiet reading areas or informal gatherings. Renovations to the existing building include an expanded cafeteria, a small-group instruction room, and administrative spaces. The addition and renovations are expected to be completed by September 2018.
