CIANJ Honors LAN Associates with Companies That Care AwardSeptember 30, 2020
The Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ) has recognized LAN Associates with the 2020 Companies That Care Award in the global outreach category. The accolade honors “extraordinary acts of kindness” and “deeds that exemplify the power of generosity and how it can help individuals, children, veterans, whole communities and even lend support to environmental projects.”
LAN Associates believes strongly in helping those in need, and we believe there is no better way to help than by lending your expertise to solve a problem you are uniquely qualified to solve. As an architecture and engineering firm whose core market is K-12 educational facilities, we understand the impact and importance of adequate school buildings. It was for this reason we sent staff to Juarez, Mexico to help an underserved school provide better facilities for their students, and it was for this work that LAN was honored by CIANJ.
“As an architect, being able to leverage our design skills and apply them to a life changing mission is the most satisfying part of the job. We certainly didn’t take on this project for recognition,” said LAN Associates Assistant Vice President Matthew Wolfe, when asked about LAN being honored for the project he worked on. “Bringing education to an underserved community like Juarez, Mexico, where poverty has made funding schools challenging, was the ultimate reward unto itself. However, it is nice to get a thumbs up from an organization like the CIANJ, affirming the importance of doing work that truly makes a difference.”
The project in question is Anchor Children’s Ministry, a school that serves hundreds of students in Juarez, Mexico. The site is located on a former landfill in an area where dirt roads and ad hoc housing are the norm. The school transformed the space it was allocated into a fully functional campus that has a 99 percent graduation rate.
The Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey is a network of New Jersey businesses committed to improving and advancing free enterprise in the state. The Companies That Care Award is given out annually at a reception in honor of recipients.
