LAN Associates was recently recognized by the American School & University for its “Outstanding Design” in its annual Education Interiors Showcase for Mamaroneck High School, in Mamaroneck, New York.

The $9.3M referendum at Mamaroneck High School focused on major renovations to its physical education curriculum.

“Three years ago, we approached LAN Associates and described our goal of aligning a forward-thinking vision for lifelong fitness and wellness with a special focus on instructional spaces that allowed teachers to innovate and personalize instruction,” said Dr. Robert Shaps, Superintendent of Mamaroneck School District. “Through the design and construction process, LAN has positioned our district to afford generations of students unique learning opportunities by creating flexible, collaborative, and inspirational spaces. We are thrilled with our new state-of-art facilities.”

With a focus on lifelong fitness, the school district repurposed underutilized spaces to create a new, multifunctional physical education environment. The project features state-of-the-art cardiovascular and weight-lifting equipment, along with an open studio for boxing and yoga, spin classes, and TRX suspension. The renovation features a Free Movement Gymnasium equipped with an indoor turf area for agility training and custom traverse walls. New layouts were provided for physical education and team locker rooms.

“It was extremely rewarding to see this project through from its infancy stage to completion,” said Danielle Farrell, Associate at LAN. “Our team creatively reinvented the use of underutilized space. The design of the new physical education space is unique and diverse providing and variety of exercise options in an open, flexible floor plan; we are happy to see it completed.”

LAN has actively been working with Mamaroneck Union Free School District for more than 25 years and is thrilled to receive this award alongside one of its longest clients.

Every year, the American School & University honors outstanding learning environments through its Educational Interiors Showcase. A panel composed of school administrators and members of the American Institute of Architects awards firms for their best interior designs. The issue, which releases in the summer, recognizes schools that have recently undergone renovation, additions, or improved their facilities.
