LAN Associates donated professional architectural and engineering services to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh for a three-story, 2,400-square-foot mixed-use building located next to their headquarters in the historic city of Newburgh, NY. LAN worked closely with the client to provide design development and construction documents. The new wood-framed structure houses a photography studio at street level with a two-story, three-bedroom, one 1/2 bath residence above. The commercial space at ground level is designed to be ADA accessible for public use, with an inviting storefront entrance that offers connectivity with the community.
A separate private exterior entrance is provided for the residence. The project is zoned as a downtown neighborhood district (DND). The historic character of the building complements the surrounding neighborhood, which features architectural design elements, materials, and colors approved by the Architectural Review Commission. LAN’s involvement extended beyond architectural and engineering services, with team members volunteering labor to help with construction. LAN’s collaboration with Habitat for Humanity has sparked their interest in using this building design as a model for constructing two additional identical buildings adjacent to the Live + Work site.
