Full-service architecture and engineering firm LAN Associates is excited to announce the addition of three strategic hires to its Civil Engineering Department. Civil Engineer and Senior Associate Dr. Karen Anne Riley, Civil Designer Nicholas Pezzuti, and Civil Designer Paulina Kaczor have all recently joined the team, which provides vital site design and construction contract administration services.

“We are excited to have Karen Anne, Nicholas, and Paulina join the team,” said LAN Chief Operating Officer Steven Ramiza, who oversees LAN’s Environmental, EH&S, and Site/Civil Departments. “They each bring a unique skill set and past experience that will aid in LAN’s mission to deliver important site design services.”

Dr. Karen Anne Riley joined the LAN team in late April as a Civil Engineer and Senior Associate. She is a licensed Engineer, licensed Land Surveyor, and Professional Planner with over 30 years of experience in the design and construction industries. Karen Anne has led a wide variety of projects for industrial, commercial, and government clients. Dr. Riley is already hard at work on civil and environmental projects at LAN that focus on stormwater management, infrastructure, and land development.

In addition to professional experience, Dr. Riley has been a faculty member at Pennsylvania State University and Drexel University and is an officer of a local chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. She is a leader in her field, and she makes presentations at engineering and land surveying conferences and volunteers at a number of organizations, including the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Environmental & Water Resources Congress (EWRI), and the Association of Science Fairs.

Nicholas Pezzuti is a Civil Designer with a broad skill set who was welcomed to the team in April. His experience crosses several disciplines and market sectors, and he has a specialized background in stormwater design. His project portfolio spans residential, K-12 education, and municipal endeavors.

In his new role as part of the LAN Associates Civil Engineering Department, Nicholas supports projects by drafting designs, conducting site visits, spearheading stormwater management initiatives, and fostering client relationships.

Nicholas embraces the integration of technology into the civil engineering workflow. He is proficient in industry-leading software such as Civil 3D, Carlson, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, and Bentley.

Paulina Kaczor is a Civil Designer who joined LAN’s team in May. She comes to LAN with hands-on experience and a project portfolio that includes residential, mixed-use, and commercial developments for notable clients such as Starbucks, 7-11, and Chik-Fil-A.

Paulina has already started working on a number of LAN projects that include due diligence and permitting work. We look forward to making use of her expertise in drafting site plan sets, performing stormwater and zoning analysis, preparing engineering reports, and assisting in creating boundary and topographic surveys.

Paulina is adept in various software programs such as AutoCAD, HydroCAD, and AGI32, and she has experience using Hydraflow, which is used to perform pipe capacity analysis. She is also familiar with NJ ADA Design Standards, NJ MLUL, and various zoning codes and ordinances.

Driven by a number of major projects, LAN has seen significant growth over the last few years. The full-service architecture and engineering firm has steadily developed its departments to meet the demand for a portfolio that is not only growing in size but also in diversity of work.

The work of the Civil Engineering Department has played a vital role in this success. Civil engineering demands expertise across many disciplines, including planning, surveying, geotechnical, transportation, structural engineering, landscape architecture, and more. LAN’s Civil Department is another piece to our full-service offering that ensures LAN can meet its goal of being there every step of the way for its clients, from site evaluation and design to acquiring permits and overseeing construction.
