Sedge Island Floating Dock Replacement and Permitting

Project Overview

LAN was retained by the NJDEP to provide the replacement of a dock and its required permitting. The dock is located at Sedge Island within Island State Beach Park. The original dock was destroyed during Super Storm Sandy.

The project was regulated by the Army Corp of Engineers under a Nationwide Permit pursuant to the Section 404 of the Federal Clean Water Act and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899. The project qualified for a Zane Amendment exemption from the NJDEP Coastal Permit Program Rules. The design was completed despite challenges presented by tidal fluctuation in water levels which limited barge access to the site and complicated the construction process.
