LAN Associates was retained by the New Jersey Division of Property Management and Construction (NJDPMC) to provide architecture, civil engineering, environmental engineering, land use, and construction administration services for the design of a new Beach Recreation Complex at Bass River State Forest.
The new 5,822 sf beachfront recreation facility includes an open patio space and accompanying concession area with a walkup counter open to a breezeway and a Visitor Services Information Booth. A lifeguard station and first-aid room were constructed with sight lines to the lake. The complex was also designed to be energy efficient with LED light fixtures and includes ADA-accessible amenities such as changing stalls and restrooms.
Through the recreational facility’s boomerang-shaped design, visitors can connect with nature while experiencing an inviting atmosphere. The welcoming breezeway entry provides a view of the lake looking through the building while providing a shaded retreat.
Durable fire-proof exterior walls were constructed with split-face and smooth CMU block with a horizontal accent band and neutral color pallet to blend harmoniously with the natural landscape in the contemporary style.
This new recreation complex will continue to serve the public’s need for amenities for recreation and leisure and house critical functions for lifeguards, first aid, and office staff to better serve the public. The beach is visited by 600 to 800 people on the weekends and features outdoor recreational activities, including sunbathing, swimming, barbequing, kayaking, canoeing and other outdoor adventures.
