Post Acute Care Unit at Christian Health Care Center

LAN was retained to design a new Post-Acute Care Unit at the Christian Health Care Center (CHCC). The new gymnasium facility offers concentrated rehabilitation therapy including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and skilled-nursing services to in-patient and out-patient clients. In addition to a full-service gym area, a space modeled after an ‘apartment’ was incorporated to reflect a typical residential home including a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room.

This space incorporates furnishings and equipment with the expressed purpose of providing the opportunity to practice tasks which are essential to independent living, such as cooking, washing, and getting in and out of bed. 

A large state-of-the-art gymnasium sits at the back of the addition, where patients can exercise using physical therapy equipment. Additional treatment rooms are on the perimeter of the space for private therapy sessions. The lower floor was redesigned to provide administrative offices for the staff.  The design incorporates natural light with large windows. 

The project’s schedule was strategically developed to ensure that construction was completed in two phases. This ensured no interruption was imposed to ongoing rehabilitation services.
