Redevelopment of Mixed-Use
Historic Building at
Servant's Heart Ministry

Project Overview

LAN was retained by Servant’s Heart Ministry to renovate a historic building located in the Great Falls Historic District in Paterson, NJ. Across the street from Great Falls National Historical Park, the space will serve as a center for creativity and community transformation, offering a range of training and mentorship programs. The finished facility will be presented to the City of Paterson Planning Board and the Paterson Historic Preservation Commission upon completion.

The building’s exterior will be refurbished to combine elements from the original building, such as muntin windows and brick, along with newly introduced materials, including infill metal panels and a structural steel canopy. The design intent is to preserve the building’s historical value while giving it a more contemporary look.

This project includes a complete renovation of each floor of the building. On the first floor, a commercial kitchen will be used for vocational training. Welding, woodworking, and automotive mechanics programs will be offered to help individuals develop professional skills. The second floor will house an auditorium for church services and performances, and a dance studio for community performing arts classes. The third floor will offer co-working studios and an event space. The rooftop will feature a restaurant with outdoor seating overlooking The Great Falls.

A new elevator and stairwell will allow access to all levels and the roof. The existing stairwell will extend to the roof level. New bathrooms will be provided and all spaces will receive new finishes and lighting. A new ventilation system will be supplied for the new commercial kitchen, classrooms, and other spaces.
