Playground Replacement At J. Fithian Tatem Elementary

Project Overview

LAN designed a 4,100 sf, barrier free accessible playground facility for the J. Fithian Tatem Elementary School. The new play area replaced an existing playground which had overgrown tree roots, deteriorated timber edging, and poor site drainage. The new playground addresses these issues and provides the school and community with a new play area designed for ages 5-12 with improved safety surfacing.

With benches dispersed throughout the fenced in playground, staff and parents can relax comfortably while the students play throughout the facility. The park is also connected to the parking and school facilities with new ADA compliant sidewalks.

LAN worked with the district and their preferred New Jersey state contract vendor to allow owner direct purchase of the play structures, surfacing, benches, and receptacles. Isolating these components from the contractor’s markup resulted in a fiscally responsible, on budget project.

This safe, secure playground will serve the district and community for years to come.
