LAN was retained by the New Jersey Department of Property Management and Construction to renovate a historic Dairy Barn at the maintenance complex in Ringwood State Park in Ringwood, New Jersey. Ringwood State Park is home to some of the original Ringwood Company buildings constructed during the once flourishing iron industry of the 18 century. Set among formal gardens, the Skylands Manor was originally built in the 1920’s during the Tudor revival period. The Dairy Barn was an important original part of the working estate of Skyline Manor and was constructed entirely of Portland cement.
The scope of work included concrete gutter repairs, exterior stucco finish repairs, window repairs, new asphalt shingle roofs, toilet room renovations, ADA improvements, a new septic system and renovations to an existing sand shed.
This structure’s restoration required the appropriate testing and analysis along with the proper repair of the concrete for long term preservation. The all-concrete dairy barn is a prime example of the use of Thomas Edison’s Portland cement concrete to achieve fire resistance.
