Borough of Ringwood DPW Garage

Project Overview

LAN was hired by the Borough of Ringwood to design a new garage for the Department of Public Works. Prior to the start of design, LAN worked with the borough to complete a report recommending the demolition and complete replacement of the existing 3,100 sf masonry building. Asbestos containing materials had to be removed before the next phase of development began.

Following demolition, LAN designed a new 6,100 sf pre-engineered metal building to serve as an updated DPW garage. Constructed around the existing fuel pump station for diesel and gasoline fuel used by the municipality, the new building and improved site consisted of the following:

  • Two bays for the Department of Public Works
  • One bay for the Office of Emergency Management
  • Ten individual municipal storage rooms for various Borough offices
  • New electrical service
  • New septic system
  • Design of two 1,000 gallon septic tanks and leach field
  • A new canopy for the existing fuel transfer station
  • New design of a 60kW natural gas generator for the building.

A key goal of this project was to ensure the pump station, located just 10 feet from the proposed building, remained operational during construction. The construction site was carefully barricaded to allow the pumps to be accessed from nearby Margaret King Ave. throughout construction.
