Broadview Senior Living at Purchase College

LAN was retained to provide mechanical and plumbing engineering and LEED design services as well as construction administration services for “Broadview,” a new senior living community for The State University of New York (SUNY) at Purchase College. This unique development project aimed to engage senior citizens and students in a diverse learning community that crosses the generational divide to benefit lifelong learners at different stages of life.

LAN worked with HCM Architects to join the new facility with the existing campus through a hub that provides students with new forms of mentoring, tutoring, and guest lecturing. Broadview’s goal is to keep residents engaged with campus academic and athletic functions while providing
students with space for career training and professional engagement. A Learning Commons was designed as the center point and multipurpose gathering space for residents and students. It is envisioned as a lively and collaborative area. The expansive attractions within the Clubhouse include classrooms, learning labs, a theater, game rooms, wellness centers, a coffeehouse, dining areas, and more. The phased project included two mid-rise buildings constructed for independent living apartments, an assisted living and memory care building, private villas, and outdoor gathering spaces. Outdoor green spaces were also included.

The project pursued LEED-silver certification. To meet the certification, LAN’s team implemented energy recovery ventilation in every apartment, Clubhouse HVAC system, LED lighting, high efficiency water heaters, ENERGY STAR appliances, WaterSense plumbing fixtures, and a host of other measures.

Active construction on Broadview began in December 2021. The project was completed in phases between October 2023 and January 2024.
